Neuroscience 7,000 years ago
Neuroscience 7,000 years ago is a virtual project concerned with the contributions of different civilizations toward the brain sciences since the Ancient Egyptians passing through different eras like Ancient Greeks, Ancient Indians, Romans, Mesopotamians, and Ancient Arab civilizations. Each civilization had various achievements in medicine — specifically in the brain sciences — which eventually led to the coherent and accessible science we now call neuroscience.
Throughout various articles available on the website you can travel from one civilization to another, and learn in depth about their contribution to brain science. Beginning with the Ancient Egyptians, what the brain meant to them, the mummification and embalming processes of the brain. The papyrus also mentions the first patients with neurological symptoms, described in detail. Descriptions of many psychiatric disorders have been documented for kings in different civilizations. How medicine was practised 3000 B.C., especially in neurology. Popular physicians who participated in medicine and their scientific achievements, particularly in the brain sciences, will be included along with their résumés.
This project aims to
document the contribution of ancient civilizations in brain science. Neuroscience 7,000 years ago is the first-ever known project concerned with documenting the chronological progress of brain discoveries from the first civilization — the Ancient Egyptians — to the modern era.
Neuroscience 7,000 years ago is a project funded by FENS (Federation of European Neuroscience Societies) as a part of the FENS History Committee. It also participated with a poster in the history corner of the FENS 2020 12th Forum, where the poster ranked in the top 10% of poster viewing statistics.
